The Weeknd, "Starboy", XO/Republic

"Mina teda küll väga palju ei kuula, kuid The Weeknd on praegu hullult populaarne!" teab sellenimelise artisti kohta öelda minu tuttav, värske välismaise popmuusikaga hästi kursis olev kahekümnendates noor naine.

"Ma ei imestaks üldse, kui selle plaadiga teeb ta puhta töö! Paneb tõenäoliselt kinni tähtsamatel rahvusvahelistel muusikaauhindade jagamistel olulisemad kategooriad!," on plaadifirma kohalik esindaja täiesti veendunud.
The Weeknd on 26-aastane Kanada laulja, laulukirjutaja ja plaadiprodutsent, kes on muusikaareenil figureerinud aastast 2010. Tema saavutusi on juba jõutud muuhulgas ka kahe Grammy auhinnaga tunnustada.
Mitte kuigivõrd atraktiivse ümbrisega "Starboy" on The Weekndi kolmas stuudioalbum. Koguni kaheksateist lugu on siia peale mahutatud, vältab ühtekokku pea seitsekümmend minutit!
Muusikaliselt võttes on plaat küllaltki kirev ja laialivalguv segu, kuigi lihtsustatult öeldes võiks ju öelda, et alternatiivne R & B, popalbum.
The Weekndi põhilisteks mõjutajateks on olnud tõelised maailmanimed nagu Michael Jackson, Prince ja R.Kelly. Eriti Jacksoni mõju on ka selgelt tunda - paljudes lugudes on The Weekndi laulmismaneer ja selline omapärane "pehme" hääl popikuningaga märkimisväärselt sarnased.
Albumi säravaimaks pärliks, sõna otseses mõttes superhitiks, on nimilugu. Loomulikult jõudis see mõnusalt "vastupõtkiv" pala Billboard Hot 100 edetabelis esikohale, sellest valminud ametlikku videoklippi on ainuüksi YouTube keskkonnas vaadatud ligi pool miljardit korda (490 200 980 klikki)!
Tegelikult on "Starboy" valminud koostöös kõrgelt noteeritud prantsuse elektroonilise muusika duoga Daft Punk. Nagu selle albumi teine n.ö. suurem lööklaul, ilusa meloodiaga romantilisemat sorti "I Feel It Coming".
Külalisartiste leiab siit tegelikult teisigi, tuntud tegijad nemadki. Fenomenaalne Lana Del Rey (vilksatab tõsi küll vaid ühesainumas ülilühikeses loos), Future ja Kendrick Lamar.
Mis n.ö. hittparaadi puutub, siis kolmanda väljavalitud singliga - "Party Monster" - oleks nagu pisut mööda pandud, jääb selliseks keskpäraseks heietuseks.
Kuid meeldiv tõdeda, et plusspoolele leiab midagi veel juurdegi. Nimelt "Love To Lay", hea rütmiga, igati kaasahaarav, miks mitte taustaks rulluma panna, kui mõni kaunitar külla peaks juhtuma.
